Hunters may be the least respected characters in World of Warcraft, and those with pets are not any higher on the list. Other players often fail to notice, however, the benefits a hunter and pet can bring to a group. In addition, a pet is an excellent addition for the hunter who prefers to solo. For those hunters who are trying to decide on a pet, the following World of Warcraft Hunter Pet Guide should help make the decision a little easier.
Taming a Pet
Before deciding on a pet, it is important to understand the basics of taming a pet. At level 10, a hunter must return to their home area to obtain a taming quest. After completing the taming quest, the hunter must then complete the quest to learn to train a pet. It is essential that both quests be completed, with the second finished as soon as possible after the first. Until you complete the training quest, you are unable to feed your pet.
When a pet is first tamed, it is at Loyalty level 1 and Unhappy. When a pet is Unhappy, it does 75% damage, while a Content pet does 100% and a Happy pet does 125%. Not only does Happiness affect your pet’s damage, but a pet that stays Unhappy will run away. Feeding the pet is necessary to raise its Happiness level, which makes the training quest essential to keeping a pet.
Choosing a Pet
There is no way to answer the question of which pet is best for a hunter. The best pet for your character depends entirely on what characteristics you are looking for in a pet. The following are some suggestions for pets based on different characteristics:
Speed
Some pets are have skills that will increase their speed by a specific percentage for 15 seconds. Dash can be used by Boars, Cats, Hyenas, Ravagers, Tallstriders, and Wolves. Additionally, the Dive skill can be used by Bats, Carrion Birds, Dragonhawks, Nether Rays, Owls, and Windserpents.
Stealth
If you are looking for a pet that can sneak up on your enemies, you may want to look at Cats. Cats can use Prowl, which slows their movement but puts them in stealth mode until cancelled. In addition, the first attack from Prowl receives a bonus to damage.
Screech
For those who prefer a pet that gets up in the enemy’s face, options include Bats, Carrion Birds, and Owls. These three types of pets can use Screech, which blasts a single enemy for damage while lowering the melee attack power of all enemies within melee range.
Damage, Health, Armor
If you are solely concerned about a pet’s ability to do damage, Cats, Windserpents, and Ravagers are high damage pets. Of course, there is a downside in that they all have lower health levels. High health pets include Nether Rays, Bears, Tallstriders, and Gorillas. The downside to these is lower damage and armor.
The high armor pets in World of Warcraft include Turtles, Crabs, Scorpids, and Crocolisks. The high armor pets have lower damage and health, however. Boars, Carrion Birds, and Wolves have generally well-rounded armor, damage and health, with none being at the highest or lowest levels of any pets.
While no World of Warcraft Hunter Pet Guide can tell which pet is best, players can easily find their best pet by simply playing around with the pets and finding what works best for them.
